and the girl was happy

Just back from the Sunset Magazine photo shoot at the Sedgwick Reserve with my old silver girl. The Sunset crew was a blast and the green wildflowered pastures at the ranch were in top form - it made for amazing pictures. Another experience for my top 10 list.

This photo shoot project was a bit like meeting an idolized movie star for me. A big star like Patrick Demsey. I was star struck. I know because I felt red the whole time. And I talked too much, listened too little, and laughed at really inappropriate times. I even asked if I could have my picture taken with Tom, the photographer. I was hopeless.

But I was also inspired. It was really neat to be in the company of real professionals. I followed them around like a puppy, asking questions and looking over shoulders. My favorite moments were when Tom would stop in mid-sentence to reach over and hit the shutter on his big intimidating camera. It was like he suddenly saw a tiny shift in the light that no one else clued into. And sometimes he would throw out these interesting interjections on the wind in the grasses or the shape of a passing cloud. Fascinating.

I was also mesmerized by the stylists because they would do things that I would never think to do when staging a photograph. Like sit in the canvas camp chairs for a few seconds before jumping out of the shot for Tom, or opening the trailer curtains so you could see out the other side of the trailer. Genius.

We won’t know if one of our shots will be used for the July 2010 cover for a few months. Apparently, the final decision is made by several layers of higher-ups, including Time, Inc., Sunset’s parent company. I’m okay waiting but now that the photo shoot is over, I’m a little sad. What could possibly top a Sunset Magazine cover shoot?

I guess maybe Patrick Demsy could call about a trailer rental…
