Hangin’ with the Sistahood

A couple of weeks ago I spent a long weekend swathed in silver and hangin’ with my home girls. No, it wasn’t a bachelorette party weekend or a jewelry party, it was the 4th annual West coast silver sisters Airstream rally.

The silver sisters is a loosely formed group of inspiring and courageous women. We are moms, professionals, artists, teachers, students, wives, 9-to-5ers, daughters, and everything else in between. From all backgrounds and walks of life, the passions we share for our curvy silver trailers and the open road are what bind us together. And our objective is simple - to encourage each other to tow our silver trailers solo.

Although we may never say this loud enough for our significant others to hear, we long for our silver-lined weekends away from our day jobs, husbands, and responsibilities. A rare guilt free weekend without rules or planned events. Just a bunch of gals, a few dogs, a campfire, and some big silver trailers. Could it get any better?

I’m honored to be included in this group. For a few days I bathe in blissful relaxation. I listen and laugh. I soak up the camaraderie and swallow a healthy dose of silver sisterhood. For me these rallies are a win-win-win. I get to answer to no one for a couple of days, I learn a boat load about my trailer and myself, and I return refreshed and infused with inspiration from my ever-increasing silver circle of friends.

As the weekends wind down, I’m always sad to say goodbye. I even cried a couple of real tears this last trip. But when I return home to my loving family a better wife, mother, friend, and co-worker, I realize it’s just all part of a bigger plan.

And I’m already counting the days until I see my silver sisters again.
