I love owls. Of all of my many manic obsessions, owls are up near the top of the list. It’s true that owls are rather adorable, which would be a convenient excuse to obsess about them, but the reasons that I lay awake at night thinking about owls are varied. Instead of therapy, I decided to make a list of why I like owls. Thought you might enjoy it.
My top 10 reasons for obsessing about owls:
10. They sleep all day and are up all night. Kinda like a vampire.
9. They are my favorite subject to sketch because you just can’t go wrong.
8. Mr. Owl still does not know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.
7. Owl pairs speak in their own romantic language (no joke).
6. They look really cute on pajamas.
5. They eat small rodents and my lawn and I appreciate them for that.
4. Owl poop is really cool. Have you ever picked through an owl pellet just to see what’s inside it? You should try it sometime.
3. They are really smart.
2. The Great Horned Owl’s proper name is Bubo Virginianus. I’m sure there is a good explanation for that Latin name.
1. They can turn their head around to look backwards. Any mother knows how important that is.
You are so funny! Owl Poop is cool? That made me laugh. I was just talking about rabbit pellets yesterday! #7 & #1 are my favorite reasons. One of my daughters is a Chi Omega (college sorority) and the Owl is their Mascot. (funny because Emily has always been afraid of birds ~ But Mom, an Owl is different..) Anyway, I started noticing them and pick them up now and then for Emily's growing Owl collection.
