Sisters

I have two sisters. One’s older, and one’s younger. We are all about a year a part, which means that we were tight as tots, but things got a little ugly when we hit the teenage years.

Now that we are adults, my sisters and I are best friends. In fact, one of them lives just 14 houses down the street and our kids go to the same school.

The Top 10 Reasons Why I Love Having Sisters:

10. They will babysit my kids.

9. We are as different as the day is long, but we all love spending the day at the flea market together.

8. At least one of them is always around when I need a soft shoulder.

7. They are the only people I can be totally, brutally, painfully honest with and they will (usually) still speak to me.

6. They laugh like me. Or, do I laugh like them?

5. As the middle sister I am, by default, the sister-peacemaker, bridge-builder, clairvoyant, and problem-solver…which I strangely like.

4. They actually take my advice sometimes.

3. We all three share a crazy obsession with owls, wide open spaces, paper ephemera, and neatness (don’t get this confused with cleanliness – waaay different.)

2. We miss our dad together.

1. I always have a sister in my corner, rootin' me on and keeping the faith. She's like a built-in best friend, but better because she can't not return my phone calls or emails, or move away and decide to ignore me. She's just always there for me.

  3. Another lovely post, Meredith! It touched my heart because I am an only child and have always missed having siblings. What makes your post even more special for me is that I have 3 daughters and nothing makes me happier than knowing that they will have each other, always.

  4. Andrea, my-silver-sister-from-another-state! I'm so glad to know YOU are my secret "6p00e54f96fe988834" admirer. Thank you for the thoughful praise and sister comments. You are so fortunate to have three daughters. I'm sure you've had your share of hair-pulling, why-did-I have-three-girls again? regretful mother moments, but I can assure you that your daughters will lean on each other for life. And, they must be very proud of their very cool mom.

    xxoo
