Last weekend, it was all about the silver and the sista’s. Once a year, we choose a campground, hitch up our trailers, wave good bye to the husbands, kids, and baggage, and set sail for a long, relaxing weekend of camaraderie and martinis. Just between you and me, I was giddy for a chance to get away from the rut. It was waaaaay overdue.
It turned out to be a perfect weekend for our escape to Pismo Beach – blue skies, wildflowers, warm sand, and endless waves crashing just beyond our campsite. The silver sisters came from all corners – Kristiana from Lotus, Karin from Petaluma, Lee from Long Beach, Julianne from Arizona, Debra, Virginia, and Lisa from Southern CA, and Janet and Malia from Santa Cruz.
I was glad I was one of the first to arrive because I failed miserably at backing the trailer into my campsite. Lucky for me, my silver sister, Julianne, came to my rescue. I guess I better stop putting on my lipstick and start paying more attention when Jack is parking that baby at the campground. I was successful, however, in leveling, unhitching, lighting pilot lights, and hooking up the sewer/water/power so I did finally get to bask in the glow of personal accomplishment.
Our weekend was loosely planned, and the girls were frisky (you know, when the cat’s away…) We took long walks on the beach, bike rides around the compound, and set out in search of the best clam chowder in Pismo. Back in camp we sipped sangria, swapped trailer treasures, shared amazing potluck dinners, and treated ourselves to warm sticky buns for breakfast (hmmm, that sounds a bit naughty, doesn’t it?) When the fun w
as finally over, a few of us were nursing hangovers, and one was was sporting a new Airstream tattoo on her shoulder.
It’s really an honor to be a part of this group of amazing, talented, and independent women. We found each other through our aluminum adoration, but so much more bonds us. Can’t wait for next year.

ReplyDeleteMy heart felt a little pinch when I read your post! It sounds just wonderful, right down to the martinis. It pains me to have missed it, but if you'll have me next year, I'll try again to get there! An Airstream tattoo, now there's an idea!
ReplyDeleteMeredith,
ReplyDeleteYou summed it up just perfectly! I feel like I was there... oh wait, I was!
That was a great weekend indeed.
Let's start planning the next one...
Love,
K.
