It's Valentine’s Day, so I thought I’d share a little about the man of my dreams.
Jack and I have been married for nearly 12 years now. I met him in 1996, when he was bachelor, fresh from 12 years in the Navy, living a bachelor life with other bachelors in a bachelor pad. I was a single girl who was finally mended after years of picking up the pieces of a broken heart. My older sister, Ellen, introduced us, and we were smitten almost immediately.
Here are my Top 10 Reasons for Loving Jack
10.) At 6’5”, I can wear my heels with him and not feel like Amazon Girl
9.) He likes vintage stuff too (when I met Jack, he drove a 1958 Ford Thunderbird. When I used to hear the rumble of that big engine coming to take me out on a date, I felt like Sandy in my favorite movie from the 80’s – Grease)
8.) He’s romantic. He still brings me flowers and sometimes leaves mushy messages on my voicemail at work. When he whispers sweet nothings in my ear, he uses words like “adore” and “dream girl”
7.) He’s a Doctor Doolittle – animals just love him
6.) He has the strongest arms I’ve ever had wrapped around me
5.) He’s got a goofy, awkward sense of humor
4.) He vacuums, does dishes, scrubs bathtubs, mows lawns, and can fix anything that breaks
3.) He is the hardest worker I know, and ethical, kind, and selfless
2.) He is a gifted craftsman and woodworker (the first gift Jack ever gave me was a bench for my tiny backyard garden. He it built it out of scrap wood and carved our initials in the backrest. Yeah, it’s kinda like the line from that Jerry McGuire movie “you had me at hello.” That bench was really all it took to hook me good)
1.) He is an amazing, caring, devoted father to our children, and a loving partner and husband. Happy Valentine’s Day, honey!
